Notes: Jimmy D'Aquisto was the last and most celebrated apprentice to the legendary John D'Angelico. In an abbreviated career of just three decades, D'Aquisto created a peerless body of work, instruments that are now the most costly and sought after archtops ever made. Now a decade after Jimmy's untimely death, this innovative model has been issued with painstaking attention to detail. From the contoured ebony tailpiece to the solid ebony wedge design bridge, these meticulously crafted instruments recapture the flair and elegance of Jimmy's brilliant designs.
The Centura DQ-CRE is built with a solid carved spruce top, married to a mahogany body carved with hollow chambers to reduce weight and enhance tone. At just 5 lb 14oz, the Centura is one of the lightest solid body guitars available, and is notably comfortable on the shoulder or in the lap. The "Accutone" bridge is one of Jimmy's innovations, crafted of solid ebony and adjusted with an ebony wedge, with no metal parts standing between the string and the soundboard. The fingerboard, tailpiece, pickguard and tuner buttons are of matching ebony as well. The neck profile is sleek in the palm, and the humbucking pickup is fat, rich and quiet.
With demand outstripping supply, these guitars are few and far between on the vintage market. This guitar is in mint condition, 100% original with original hardshell case, a superb gigging guitar, and a magnificent example of design and craftsmanship.
