Notes: Patrick James Eggle is a British born luthier of exceptional ability, who built a formidable reputation crafting high-end custom solid-bodies for a select clientele of top touring pros. Eschewing the burdens of corporate management, Eggle sold the UK firm that still bears his name, moved to rural North Carolina, and got back to basics, building custom crafted acoustic guitars in a one-man shop. The Linville epitomizes the craft and creativity of his uncompromising dedication to fine luthiery.

In 1930 the CF Martin Company built one of their groundbreaking OM style guitars in the ornate 42 style ornamentation, with the abalone torch and body binding, snowflake fingerboard inlay, and the small tortoise pickguard. And for the next 69 years that was it: just one lonely OM-42, until the model was finally revived almost 7 decades later. The Linville is an elegant recreation of that fabled guitar, built with extraordinary materials and loving attention to detail.

The soundboard is constructed of exceptionally fine grained bookmatched Sitka spruce with extravagant cross grain silk throughout. The body is crafted of handsome Indian Rosewood, and the peghead facing, with it's graceful abalone torch, is set in true Brazilian. With its solid one piece mahogany neck, the guitar is feather light, a mere 4 lb 10 oz, and beautifully balanced in the lap. The fingerboard and bridge are crafted of solid dark ebony, and the tuners are nickel scalloped Waverly 16X1 Sta-Tites, top of the line in every respect. Finally a B-Band A 2.2 active pickup system is installed, with volume and tone thumbwheel controls tucked discreetly inside the rim of the bass side of the soundhole.

The instrument is finished in a gently shaded vintage amber nitrocellulose lacquer, and is complemented with a pickguard fashioned of splendidly figured Tor-tis material. The voice is notably brilliant, lively and responsive to the fingers or pick, with excellent clarity and balance across the range. The neck profile is a comfortable medium C, with low action over finely dressed fretwork. The instrument has been carefully kept, without cracks, pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear, and shows only some light traces of scattered finish checking on the soundboard. An elegant and exquisitely crafted instrument in the greatest tradition of fine custom luthiery.

Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge bronze roundwound strings (.013-.056). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.

Case: Original Cedar Creek plush hardshell case.
