Notes: It has long been recognized that full-bodied guitars produce an acoustic voice that is superior in both volume and tone to their cutaway cousins. It is therefore curious how few contemporary luthiers have continued in the great tradition of the peerless prewar powerhouses. Accordingly, we are pleased to report that Seattle luthier Bryant Trenier is a happy exception to the rule. A European trained builder whose instruments combine traditional design with exacting contemporary standards of craft, Trenier is a fine visual designer as well as a meticulous fabricator. The result is an instrument as pleasing to the eye as it is to the ear and the hand.
A full depth guitar in the classic tradition, the Trenier 17 Special is carved of exceptional tiger flame maple, with a hand-graduated bookmatched fine grained tap tuned solid spruce top. With it's finely carved parallel braced soundboard, the Trenier 17 Special is a true acoustic guitar, open and forward, with clarity, punch and an even response along the entire scale. The neck profile is gently rounded in the classic Gibson style, with graceful D'Aquisto style soundholes, and finely crowned medium frets over a fingerboard of solid black ebony. The voice is open and powerful, with crystal clarity and projection to burn. Premium features include handmade ebony hardware, bound f-holes and a floating Kent Armstrong Johnny Smith pickup. And the wood, that impossibly figured wood.
This example is in immaculate condition, without pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear. Those savvy enough to bag a Benedetto or Monteleone when they were still bargains can appreciate the value of spotting talent on the way up. One only, call now.
Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge bronze roundwound strings (.013-.056). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
Case: Original plush hardshell case.
