Notes: Introduced in 1929, the Martin OM series was a quantum leap in flat top guitar design. Commissioned by banjoist Perry Bechtel, the "Orchestra Model" was Martin's first 14 fret guitar, and first to employ the long 25.5" scale. The 000 body size is renowned for tonal balance, and the generous 1 3/4" fingerboard made it a favorite of fingerstyle players. Discontinued in 1933, the OM was revived by Martin on custom order in the late 70's, and brought back to regular production in 1990, the same year custom luthier David Eichelbaum opened his shop in Santa Barbara, CA.

Designed with understated elegance, the Eichelbaum Sierra OM advances the design with a slightly enlarged body, crafted of rare highly figured Honduras Rosewood. The richly ambered bookmatched spruce soundboard is laced with subtle bearclaw figure, and supported with true Adirondack red spruce braces. Lightweight and resonant, with the brilliance of the rosewood body, the Sierra OM is an ideal instrument for traditional repertoires or standards alike. The 15 1/2" body sits handily under the arm, with a clear, open and highly musical voice either under the pick or with fingers alone.

This example is in superb one-owner condition, with a comfortable light "C" neck profile, handsome figured body, Greven tortoise guard, and an appealing warm voice. At just 4lb 11oz. the guitar is phenomenally lightweight, and very well balanced in the lap. Eichelbaum's instruments rarely surface on the vintage market, and his base price is now $7500 with an 18 month wait. This outstanding example delivers tailor made luthier built quality at a fraction of the price, and is ready to ship to the first lucky picker.

Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge bronze strings (.012-.054). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings.
