Materials: Arched slab-cut tiger flame maple top, back and sides; solid maple neck with mahogany stripes; rosewood fingerboard with block inlay; 3-ply body binding, bound fingerboard; Chesterfield peghead inlay.

Notes: Introduced in 1988, the Guild Manhattan X-170 is a thinline version of the venerable X-175 , which made its debut in 1954, a year after the firm opened its doors. With its wide body and contoured Venetian cutaway, the slimmed depth design of the Manhattan X-170 resembles that of the Gibson Byrdland or ES-350T, with the enhanced playability of a standard scale length neck.
A scarce model, the X-170 was produced only until 2003. This example is from the Westerly, Rhode Island factory, where Guild enjoyed its greatest years from 1966 until its closing in 2001. Hansomely flamed, the guitar is in wonderful condition, with all original hardware, warmly ambered original blonde finish, and original hardshell case. The twin HB-1 pickups are warm and detailed, and the slimmed, highly figured maple body offers superior comfort and feedback resistance.
Carefully maintained, this fine example has 100% original hardware and finish, free of pick, buckle, thumb or fretwear. Smooth low action over an easy D profile neck, with brightly polished medium fretwork. Apart from some tarnish on the pickup covers, the instrument appears otherwise virtually unplayed.

Setup: The frets have been precision leveled, crowned and polished; trussrod tension and neck relief adjusted; bridge height adjusted; bridge compensation set; string slots at nut and bridge inspected and recut as necessary; bridge foot contour inspected and fit to top as necessary; bridge radius inspected and recurved as necessary; bridge wheels and tuners lubricated; fingerboard and bridge oiled; body and neck cleaned and hand polished.
This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel strings (.012-.054). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
