Notes: Handcrafted of rare and extravagant figured curly black walnut, and lively Alaska cedar, the McKerrihan Custom Oval is an innovative design, with a diagonally oriented soundhole, and side mounted soundport in the lower bass bout. The unique body design and long scale lend a splendid combination of archtop projection and gypsy guitar clarity, with the sound port design and enhanced body depth producing a rich bass response unusual in instruments much greater in size.
At a phenomenal 4lb, 14oz., the instrument is exceptionally lightweight, and the compact 15" body is easy to hold and a delight to play. Designer touches include all handmade Macassar ebony hardware and fingerboard, and solid curly maple binding, with the sort of meticulous fit and finish found only on the finest luthier built instruments. The solid mahogany neck has a medium depth D profile with smooth low action over freshly dressed medium fretwork. Finally, the PUTW Powerstrip pickup provides clear, accurate amplification and is inobtrusively installed beneath the bridge foot.
This example is in outstanding condition, 100% original, without pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear. McKerrihan instruments are rarely seen on the vintage market, and offer custom handbuilt US luthier quality, at a price many pay for plywood imports.
Case: Original black plushlined hardshell case.
