Materials: Solid maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, "split-block" mother of pearl and abalone inlay; ornate tree-of-life peghead inlay. Five-ply top binding, with triple-bound back, neck, peghead and heelcap. Vintage sunburst finish over arched spruce top and maple back with attractive figure; deluxe bound f-holes.
Hardware: All gold hardware, including floating Johnny Smith style humbucking pickup with adjustable polepices, authentic Frequensator tailpiece, pickguard bracket and precision Gotoh 16X1 tuners; tortoise shell pickguard with 5-ply binding, adjustable compensated rosewood bridge, adjustable truss rod at peghead, volume and tone controls with vintage style knobs.
Notes: The new Gibson/Epiphone Emperor Regent combines a number of classic guitar designs in a instrument updated for the contemporary player. The 17" body is modeled after the Gibson L-5 cutaway, which made its debut in 1939. The long-scale neck is a faithful replica of Epiphone's flagship Emporer, right down to the striking abalone and pearl fingerboard inlay pattern of the late 40's and 50's. The gold Johnny Smith style floating pickup is a tribute to the classic bop players of the 60's, who relied on it's warm tone and noise-free operation. Finally, the slim, fast neck profile, and ultra-smooth 16X1 tuners are as contemporary as any hand-built guitar made today. The arched, laminated body provides greater feedback resistance than the typical carved-top, yet provides respectable acoustic volume for practice, rehearsal, or playing around the house. With top-flight fit and finish, the Emperor Regent boasts cosmetic touches typically found only in the costliest top-of-the line instruments, such as bound f-holes, and five-ply body and pickguard binding.
This example is in as-new condition, and comes complete with a precision pro setup for optimized action and tone. It is stamped "Used" on the back of the headstock, perhaps as a result of a very slight fading of the black headstock veneer. Perfect as a road or club-date guitar, or for the aspiring player wishing to move up to a full-bodied electric/acoustic jazz box, the Emperor Regent represents the unquestioned best-buy in a true pro-sized cutaway archtop guitar. With a new list price of $1300, our price *includes* the hardshell case, a $150 value.
Case: Original hardshell case.
