Materials: Solid bookmatched figured Madagascar rosewood back and sides; solid bookmatched Sitka spruce top; solid one-piece Honduras mahogany neck; solid ebony fingerboard; herringbone binding and backstripe; rosewood peghead veneer; solid ebony bridge with bone saddle; gold Waverly Sta-Tite style butterbean tuners, adjustable truss rod.

Notes: Built to the specs of the noted fingerstyle recording artist, the HJ-38 Stefan Grossman Signature blends a number of Martin's most desirable features in one impressive instrument. Its 16" Jumbo body is Martin's widest, and originally pioneered on the firm's prewar C and F series archtops. Deeper than the M or 0000 series models, the J series is enhanced by the extended 4 7/8" Dreadnought depth and 25.4" scale as well. Combined with prewar style forward shifted X-bracing, the HJ-38 offers a brilliant combination of clarity, projection and tonal balance.

Upscale appointments include the small herringbone purfling and backstripe, 42 style short snowflake fingerboard inlay, and the vertical headstock logo, which also debuted on the early 30's Martin archtops, and shortly added to their top-line 45 style models. The vintage styling is completed with a soundhole rosette of vivid Paua abalone, and the teardrop OM-style pickguard, also from the early 30's.

Complete with premium gold Waverly 16:1 tuners, and the adjustable truss rod, the HJ-38 offers the best of traditional design with optimal modern playability. Action is smooth and low, with a fresh high precision setup on the modified V profile neck, with solid ebony fingerboard, and gleaming medium fretwork. The generous 1 3/4" nut and 2 3/8" string spacing at the bridge are ideal for play with either finger and pick style play as well.

The bookmatched, quartersawn Sitka spruce soundboard is heavily interlaced with crossgrain silk, over a particularly handsome figured Madagascar rosewood body, with lustrous coffee colored highlights. This gleaming example remains in 100% original condition, without apparent playwear, and is complete with its original deluxe black Martin plush lined hardshell case, with factory tags, key, and additional bone saddle.

Hand signed by the artist, this striking guitar is #3 of the four original examples crafted for Grossman's personal approval, and is one of only 188 of the models produced through 2011. Versatile and striking, the HJ-38 Stefan Grossman Signature Model is a rare find indeed, from the masters of the acoustic guitar. One only, call now.

Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge bronze strings, with action set to 4-5/64" at the 12th fret. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference.
