Notes: Tired of typical plywood thinlines? Then pick a few sweet notes on the Baker Model 35.

Introduced in 1958, the Gibson ES-335 debuted the thinline body, with an inner block for sustain and reduced feedback, and the new humbucking pickups for quiet operation, high output, and sweet, fat tone. The 335 became an instant classic, mass-produced in the thousands to this day with inexpensive, durable plywood bodies.

New York luthier Victor Baker's archtop guitars are meticulously constructed entirely by hand, and rarely seen on the vintage market. His Model 35 blends the premium hand-carved solid quilted maple soundboard and figured mahogany of his top-line jazz boxes to the comfortable thinline body of the classic 335. At just 7lb. 11oz the body and neck are well balanced, and the instrument sits comfortably on the lap or the shoulder. The vintage sunburst finish shows the intensely figured quilted maple top to superb advantage. The neck has a gentle "D" profile, remarkably sleek and fast, and the frets are the classic medium-jumbos, famously easy to play. The Fralin Unbucker pickups produce a smooth, high output signal with lots of snap and sustain. The instrument was custom built without a pickguard, and is virtually unplayed, without pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear. With a fast neck and smooth sweet bluesy tone, this handbuilt marvel blends 335 comfort with L-5 quality construction.

Baker's guitars are now available only on custom order, and the pricing at this writing is $4400. One only, call now.
