SN# JP#2 016

Finish: Faded sunburst, nitrocellulose type

Materials: Highly figured solid tiger flame Eastern maple top; solid Honduras mahogany neck and body; solid rosewood fingerboard.

Hardware: All original vintage style aged nickel and chrome hardware includes Gibson Custom Bucker neck PAF, Page #2 bridge PAF, aluminum stop tailpiece, ABR-1 Tuneomatic bridge, Grover Rotomatic tuners, gold bonnet volume and tone knobs, push-pull pots, twin DPDT phase switches, cream pickguard with nickel support bracket, 3 way switch, vintage bell truss rod cover.

Notes: In 1973, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page located a '59 Les Paul Standard, SN#91703, as a backup to his first 'burst, purchased from Joe Walsh. To maximize its tonal possibilities, Page had tech whiz Steve Hoyland install push-pull pots to switch the coil tapped PAF pickups from series to parallel, and from humbucking to single coil operation. In addition, he added two miniature push-button switches under the pickguard, to control the phase orientation of the pickups, to further optimize the versatility of the instrument.

This handsome guitar is #16 of the limited edition of 200 VOS reissues hand-crafted in Gibson's Custom shop, to Page's exacting specifications. (Even the exposed screw holes from Number Two's original Kluson tuners have been left in place, just above the Grovers Page replaced them with.) The neck pickup has Alnico III magnets for a smooth, fat voice, and the uncovered bridge pickup is fitted with Alnico Vs for exemplary crunch and bite. Both have been wax-potted to deter feedback, and aged in appearance to match the rest of the nickel and chrome hardware.

This Eastern maple top is carved with a beautifully bookmatched tiger flame maple, and finished in a lustrous faded sunburst vintage nitro finish. The neck profile is nicely full in the hand, and just slightly less chunky than some Pauls from earlier in the 50's, with smooth, low action over a fresh high-precision setup.

With all-original finish and hardware, the instrument has been played very lightly, showing only a few incidental lacquer nicks. The original black hardshell case has Page's signature on the lid, and includes all original tags, paperwork, and Certificate of Authenticity.

An instrument of unusual versatility and exceptional appearance. One only: call now.

Setup: Trussrod tension and neck relief adjusted; bridge height adjusted; bridge compensation set; bridge wheels and tuners lubricated; fingerboard and bridge oiled; body and neck cleaned and hand polished.
