Notes: From their workshop in the historic city of Cognac in southwest France, Patrick and Mathias Dupont have become premier builders of the gypsy jazz guitar, under the direction of their father Maurice, trained himself by legendary luthier Jacques Favino. Dupont instruments have consistently been among the most faithful recreations of the original Selmers made today, and played by a pantheon of luminaries, including Birelli Lagrene, Romane, Tchavolo Schmitt and many more.

An elegant example of their work, the MD-50B is a meticulous rendition of Django's most celebrated guitar, with its long scale and 'petite bouche' soundhole. The figure in the upgrade Brazilian rosewood body is deep and lustrous, from inky purple to cafe-au-lait, and expertly bookmatched.

Lightweight and resonant, the instrument weighs in at just 1.50kg (3lb. 6oz .) and the voice is notably deep and clear, with outstanding volume, detail, and projection. The neck is carved of elegant figured walnut, with a wonderfully comfortable D profile, slim in depth and nicely flattened across the back, with smooth, low action over a fresh high precision setup.

The instrument has been maintained in fine shape, with all original hardware and finish, free of cracks, pick, buckle, thumb, fret or fingerboard wear. Apart from a few light wisps of checking, and some incidental lacquer nicks, the instrument shows few signs of age or play otherwise.

The MC-50B is rarely seen on the vintage market, and new examples can entail a considerable wait. True gypsy royalty, ready to rule over a campfire or a concert hall. One only: call now.

Setup: This instrument is strung with light gauge silvered steel strings. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 4/64" to 5/64" at the 12th fret, with light relief for acoustic playing with light to medium gauge strings.

Case: Original deluxe black fitted plush lined hardshell case.
