1940's Epiphone Deluxe

Finish: Sunburst finish, nitrocellulose lacquer type
Materials: Solid handcarved tiger-flame figured maple back and sides; solid bookmatched handcarved spruce top; solid flame maple neck with 3-ply walnut/maple centerstripe; mother of pearl "cloud" style fingerboard inlay; fancy vine style mother-of-pearl peghead inlay, five-ply body binding, bound fingerboard and headstock.
Hardware: Original gold epsilon logo tuners; gold Pat. Pend. stamped Frequensator tailpiece; hex-key adjustable truss rod; vintage correct bound tortoise pickguard, Kent Armstrong floating PAF pickup and volume control; 1/4" output jack.
Notes: A lovingly restored example of a classic 1940's Deluxe. The instrument has a highly flamed carved maple back, sides and neck, and Adirondack spruce soundboard. A number of cracks have been soundly resealed, the neck reset to correct angle, and the instrument given a vintage Epi style recent sunburst finish. The gold Gibson era Frequensator tailpiece is brightly plated, and the restoration completed with a triple-bound tortoise pickguard in the classic Epi contour.
An Armstrong floating PAF humbucking pickup and mini-volume control are installed, wired to a standard 1/4" jack near the tailpiece. A marvel of modern electronics, this handwound humbucker is equally at home with nickel or bronze strings, accommodating round or flatwound strings with equal balance and resonance.
The voice is open, forward and powerful, with the classic bark that true New York Epis are justly renowned for. Action is smooth and low over a gentle C profile neck with gleaming recent fretwork and a fresh high-precision setup. Though the blue NY label is no longer completely legible, the features of the instrument suggest a postwar manufacture date, sometime between 1945 and 1949.
