Finish: Original sunburst finish, nitrocellulose type.

Materials: Solid Honduras mahogany neck; arched maple top back, and sides; solid ebony fingerboard.

Notes: Built in small numbers between 1978 and 1993, the ES-347TD is one of the scarcest and most versatile of Gibson's thinline guitars. An upgraded ES-335, the 347 shares the center-block construction for enhanced sustain and feedback resistance. Like the 345 and 55, the 347 has upmarket features like the solid ebony fingerboard, all-gold hardware and a multi-bound headstock.

But what sets the ES-347 apart is its innovative electronic design. The twin Series 7 pickups contain ceramic magnets for higher output, and are coil tapped, for both humbucking and single-coil operation. Used in concert with the 3 way pickup selector, the coil tap switch allows the player to choose among an exceptional variety of tonal colors.

The vintage sunburst finish on this handsome guitar shows the slab-figured maple body to great advantage, and contrasts elegantly with the jet-black pickguard and gold control knobs. The neck has a gentle D profile, remarkably easy in the hand, with fine high original Gibson medium-jumbo frets. The body and neck are well balanced, and the instrument sits comfortably on the lap or the shoulder. The Series 7 humbuckers (now known as Dirty Fingers) produce a powerful, fat signal with lots of crunch, and open up sweet, clear harmonics in single-coil mode.

This gleaming guitar is 100% original, and has been maintained without pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear. The all-original lacquer finish shows no checking, yet is marked as a second on the headstock, for no reason we can determine at this late date. This babied example has the cutaway-mounted coil tap switch and solid brass nut of the earliest versions of the model, along with the micro-adjustable TP-6 stop tailpiece, with individual fine tuners, for ultra-precise pitch control. With smooth low action and a fresh pro setup, the guitar plays superbly, with an elegant neck and a rainbow of tones. Apart from a touch of wear on the pickup covers, the guitar appears virtually unplayed, and is nestled in its immaculate original hard shell case.

A rare find, and one of Gibson's most innovative creations. One only: call now.

Setup: Trussrod tension and neck relief adjusted; bridge height adjusted; bridge compensation set; bridge wheels and tuners lubricated; fingerboard and bridge oiled; body and neck cleaned and hand polished.

Case: Original brown Gibson logo deluxe arched pink plush hardshell case, with silk coverlet.
