Notes: Since 1972 the celebrated luthier Steve Grimes has been making master quality instruments by hand, and building in the process a formidable reputation for his meticulous construction and creative designs. Working from his shop on the side of Mt. Haleakala on Maui, Grimes has partnered with such luminaries as George Benson, Larry Coryell, Steve Miller, Leo Kottke, Keola Beamer and Willie Nelson, to create instruments that fuse elegant craftsmanship with strikingly innovative design.
Carved with all Euro tonewoods, this gorgeous example of Grimes Montreaux model features intensely flamed maple throughout, with a tap-tuned X-braced Alpine spruce soundboard. Abalone and pearl window inlays adorn the solid ebony fingerboard, with generous 1 3/4" nut and full 25 1/2" scale.
The voice is clear and authoritative, with excellent detail and natural reverb. With all original ebony hardware and Armstrong floating humbucker, the instrument is fitted with both volume and tone controls, the latter tucked discreetly under the guard with a thumbwheel pot. The amber blonde finish shows no playwear or checking, and the bookmatched maple back shows dramatic chevron figuration.
