Notes: It is expected that a first-class luthier will excel at the fundamentals of the craft: joinery, voicing, fit and finish. But Mark Campellone is that rarest of builders who succeeds where so many of his peers fall short, in the crucial dimension of design. Simply put, all of Mark's instruments are beautiful, as pleasing to behold as they are to play. Simple, tasteful, with understated elegance, Campellone guitars draw from the heart of traditional styling, updated with bold, modern flair.
Handbuilt at his Rhode Island workshop, this spectacular custom instrument was crafted with a full depth 18" body, and an oval soundhole, in the style of the beloved Gibson/Epiphone Howard Roberts. The extended Venetian cutaway is reminiscent of the 60's Super 400CES, and allows unrestricted access to the uppermost fingerboard. The instrument is carved of truly breathtaking AAAA Big Leaf quilted maple on the back and sides, with a hand-graduated tap-tuned Sitka spruce top, showing pronounced bearclaw figure, and abundant crossgrain silk.
The voice is rich and warm, with the depth only the super jumbo body can produce, all conveyed faithfully to the amp by the vintage gold DeArmond FHC floating pickup, with peerless clarity and detail. Cosmetic upgrades include the fan inlay pattern of Mark's Deluxe models, and an inscribed truss rod cover of vivid Paua abalone. Action is smooth and low over the solid ebony fingerboard with generous 1 3/4" nut, and a fresh high precision setup, on the gentle D profile neck.
The instrument has been maintained in immaculate 100% original condition, without apparent playwear of any kind. A unique creation from one of the most respected builders of contemporary archtop guitars. One only: call now.
Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel roundwound strings (.012-.052). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 4/64" to 5/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
Case: Original deluxe arched black plush lined hardshell case
