Serial #: 8404571

Body size at lower bout: 15" Body depth at endpin: 4" Scale length: 24 3/4" Nut width: 1 11/16"

Materials: Solid bookmatched Sitka spruce top; solid Indian Rosewood back and sides; solid one-piece mahogany neck with adjustable truss rod; solid ebony bridge and fingerboard; pearl diamond inlays; herringbone body binding; Martin mini-Schaller tuners; Fishman Prefix active pickup system.

Notes: Introduced in 1902, the 000 was the largest guitar to bear the CF Martin name, until the adoption of the D series in 1930. Originally designed for gut strings (some early 000 examples were built as harp guitars) the model didn't really take off until a steel string version was introduced the 20's, and championed by players like country pioneer Jimmy Rodgers. The 14 fret neck was introduced in 1934, and the model has remained in the catalog to this day.

With its comfortable body, easy scale length, and handsome rosewood body, the 000-28 has been a popular choice of fingerstyle players in particular, who have championed its brilliant voice and peerless playability. However, for reasons known only to the nabobs of Nazareth, Martin has never seen fit to offer this perennial favorite with a cutaway body as a standard model. And so the original owner commisioned this gleaming instrument from Martin's Custom Shop, with all the trimmings: herringbone body binding and purfling, swirl tortoise pickguard, vintage toned lacquer, and the versatile Fishman Prefix active pickup system with onboard blender.

At just 4lb 10oz, the instrument is nicely lightweight and well balanced, in the lap or on the strap. The voice is clear, resonant and responsive, with sensitivity for either pick or fingerstyle play, and the acoustic voice is transmitted with great accuracy by the dual-source pickup system. Blending both undersaddle and internal mic signals to the player's preference, the Prefix offers control of volume, 4 band EQ, phase and a notch filter, the latter being particularly handy in controlling feedback-inducing body resonances. The soundboard is bookmatched of quartersawn Sitka spruce, with some crossgrain silk and a bit of bearclaw figure by the guard, and the solid rosewood body shows clear, even grain throughout. The cutaway body opens access to the uppermost frets, and players favoring capo positions or alternate tunings will be pleased that the solid ebony fingerboard is free of position markers in the classical style, with side dots discreetly placed alongside the fingerboard.

This superb example has been lovingly maintained in 100% original condition, without pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear. A uniquely versatile creation, from the world's pre-eminent builder of the flat top guitar. One only, call now.

Case: Original black Martin deluxe plush lined molded hardshell case.

Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge bronze strings (.012-.054). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings.
