Notes: The concept of the thinline, short scale jazz guitar can be traced to legendary Nashville studio ace Hank Garland, who commissioned a custom Stromberg archtop to his specifications in 1953. By 1955, Gibson introduced the renowned Byrdland model, based on this design, and Hank Garland and Billy Byrd's brainchild has remained in the catalog to this day.

Robert Rusch builds a wide variety of handcrafted guitars one at a time in his workshop in Youngstown, NY. The ToneKing is his flagship model, entirely handcarved of select tonewoods, with premium features including a solid ebony fingerboard and pickguard, all gold hardware, bound soundholes, and a handwound Jason Lollar 'Charlie Christian' single coil pickup; a tribute to one of the most beloved jazz pickups ever. At just 6lb. 4oz., the all-hollow slimline body is exceptionally comfortable to hold, with a solid carved quartersawn fine grain spruce soundboard, and bookmatched flame maple back and neck. Fast, gentle C neck profile with smooth low action over finely dressed medium frets. The voice is clear and detailed, with the CC pickup faithfully capturing the nuances of the soundboard.

This example is in immaculate condition, and with vintage Byrdlands now selling well into the five figures, the ToneKing is an unbeatable value in a true handmade solid carved US built guitar. One only, call now.

Setup: The frets have been precision leveled, recrowned and polished as required; trussrod tension and neck relief adjusted; bridge height adjusted; bridge compensation set; string slots at nut and bridge inspected and recut as necessary; bridge foot contour inspected and fit to top as necessary; bridge wheels and tuners lubricated; fingerboard and bridge oiled; body and neck cleaned and hand polished.

This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel flatwound strings (.012-.054). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.

Case: Original deluxe arched plush lined hardshell case.
