Notes: One of the many distinguished alumni of Larrivee Guitars, Andrew Nezil cut his chops with legendary Vancouver luthier Michael Dunn, one of the most creative builders alive. A player as well as a builder, Nezil combines a musician's ear with an artists's eye for fine tonewood.

The Nezil AA1 is a classic Venetian cutaway acoustic archtop in the Benedetto style, constructed of intensely figured tiger flame maple, hand carved tap-tuned quartersawn spruce, and all handmade ebony hardware. And in the tradition of fine violin family instruments since before Stradivari, the AA is hand rubbed with a French polish shellac finish, a laborious technique renowned for optimizing response of the tonewood. So time-consuming is this process that few luthiers ever master it, though many feel it can leave the soundboard more open and flexible than traditional spray lacquer finishes.

This handsome guitar is fitted with a D'Aquisto style wedge-adjusting bridge, a design that eliminates all metal parts in the signal path between the strings and soundboard. (In the style of classic NY Epiphones, the base is carved of rock maple as well, to better complement the warm amber blonde finish.) The hand graduated X braced top is tap-tuned to maximize clarity and projection, and at just a hair over 5lb. the instrument is astonishingly light in weight and very well balanced, in the lap or the strap. Action is smooth and low over a gentle D neck profile with full width 1 3/4" nut and solid ebony fingerboard. The Benedetto floating pickup is rich and accurate, with thumbwheel volume and tone controls and an endpin jack.

Handsome, resonant and a great player, the Nezil AA1 is an outstanding value in a hand built North American jazz guitar. Brand new with warranty: one only, call now.

Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel roundwound strings (.013-.056). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.

Case: Deluxe black arched fitted plush lined hardshell case.
