Materials: Figured arched maple laminate top, sides, and back; solid 3 piece tiger maple neck; solid ebony fingerboard; notched block mother of pearl fingerboard inlay and ornate peghead inlay; triple bound top, bound back.
Hardware: Original gold hardware includes Gibson Pat. # humbucking pickups, ebony inlaid trapeze tailpiece, compensated Tuneamatic bridge with inlaid base, and Gibson Deluxe single ring tulip key tuners, 5-ply bound tortoise pickguard, ebony control knobs, 3 way control switch. Gold Graph Tech Ratio locking tuners installed, original Grover Super Rotomatic tuners included.
Notes: One of Gibson's rarest full depth archtops, the elusive ES-775 was introduced in 1990 in their Artist Series, as a variant of their upscale L-4CES model. With its striking figured maple laminate body, the 775 was designed for the working player, with enhanced sustain, feedback resistance, and structural stability.
With upscale appointments including all-gold hardware, bound tortoise pickguard, solid ebony fingerboard, knobs and tailpiece insert, custom 'flying f-hole' headstock and split block fingerboard inlays (the latter from Epiphone's Spartan and Howard Roberts models), the ES-775 was a showpiece indeed.
It also exhibited significant structural changes over it's workhorse cousin, the ES-175. The neck pickup was moved to the end of the fingerboard, for a mellower voice, in contrast to its 24th fret placement on the 175. And the cutaway was appreciably deepened, for improved access to the upper fingerboard. Built for just three years, the Custom Shop ES-775 was discontinued in 1993, after a tantalizingly brief production run.
This gleaming example is in superb condition, free of pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear, and shows handsome flame figure in the curly maple body. With an elegant gentle D profile neck, the fingerboard is utterly effortless to play, with a fresh high precision setup. The 24 3/4" scale is fast and nimble, the twin humbuckers are fat and sweet, and the 16" body is easy to cradle and substantially resistant to feedback.
A special upgrade, a set of Graph Tech Ratio locking tuners have been installed, on the exact footprint of the original Grovers, which are included in the case. A unique piece of history, as well as a superb working guitar, this scarce marvel is as rare as they come. You can be the only one on your block with one of these. But don't dawdle, one only: call now.
Setup: The frets have been precision leveled, recrowned and polished as needed; trussrod tension and neck relief adjusted; bridge height adjusted; bridge compensation set; string slots at nut and bridge inspected and recut as necessary; bridge foot contour inspected and fit to top as necessary; bridge wheels and tuners lubricated; fingerboard and bridge oiled; body and neck cleaned and hand polished.
This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel flatwound strings. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 4/64" to 5/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.
Case: Original deluxe brown Gibson arched plush lined hardshell case.
