Notes: Luthier Steven Holst has been making fine handcrafted instruments one at a time for over 20 years. His shop is located in Oregon's verdant Willamette Valley, in the town of Creswell, just south of Eugene. With a production of just eight to ten instruments a year, Holst's guitars are not easy to come by, and are rarely seen on the vintage market. His Semi-Hollow model is a hard working guitar for the gigging player, with a thinline soundchamber with solid maple centerblock for increased sustain and feedback resistance.

This example is built with exemplary all-solid premium grade tonewoods including a solid bookmatched handcarved top of tiger flame Claro walnut, a very rare and deeply handsome hardwood native to Holst's own Oregon woods. This example is in stellar condition, without pick, buckle or thumb or fingerboard wear. The 15" body is notably light in weight, just 7lb. 7oz, well balanced and easygoing on the lap or the strap. The neck profile is a gentle D, with smooth low action over a solid ebony fingerboard with generous 1 3/4" nut. The Bartolini humbucking pickup offers rich, warm amplified tone, with exceptional versatility provided by the coil-tap mini-switch, and unique Howard Roberts style independent treble and bass roll-off tone controls. Base price for the Holst Semi-Hollow is over $4000, with a substantial wait. Handbuilt quality and solid carved tonewoods at a bargain price. One only: call now.

Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel flat wound strings (.013-.056). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.

Case: Original deluxe plush arched hardshell case.
