Materials: Highly figured solid flame maple body; solid bookmatched quartersawn spruce soundboard; solid one-piece mahogany neck with adjustable truss rod; solid ebony bridge and fingerboard; abalone peghead logo, swirl tortoise pickguard; herringbone backstripe and and soundhole purfling; sealed Schaller 16X1 tuners.

Notes: Having begun his career with pioneering steel string luthier Michael Gurian in the early 70's, Michael Millard has been building custom grade flat top guitars in New England now for some four decades. Long based in rural Vermont, Millard and his small team of dedicated builders have earned numerous awards for their exquisitely hand crafted instruments.

This guitar is a striking example of their Model J, a jumbo cutaway reminiscent of the fabled Epiphone FT Deluxe, with a 17" body, arched back, and slightly shallower depth than traditional dreadnoughts. Blending the tonal balance of an OM with the power of the D series, the Model J is ideal for the fingerstyle jazz player desiring greater bass response and sustain than conventional archtops. The extravagantly figured tiger maple body produces an open, powerful voice with exceptional depth and detail. The neck has a comfortable gentle "D" profile, and the soundboard is crafted of quartersawn bookmatched spruce, heavily interlaced with intense crossgrain silk.

Accents include herringbone trim, solid maple binding and endblock wedge, rosewood headplate, and a vintage style small tortoise pickguard. This example is in immaculate condition, free of pick, buckle, thumb or fingerboard wear, with smooth low action over freshly dressed vintage style fretwork. With a strong, supple voice and classic looks, this handsome guitar is an exceptional find indeed.

Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge bronze strings (.013-.056). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings.
